The snack point or Imbiss-Oase at the Haus der Statistik, operated by Hai Phan-Vam, has existed since 1983 and has developed into an iconic meeting place for the residents of the neighbouring prefabricated housing estate – a familiar spot within the otherwise rough urban fabric surrounding Alexanderplatz. Originally built as a temporary structure, it still offers affordable food today and serves as an informal monument to the post-reunification period as well as a social anchor amid the district’s transformation. The meeting place is now being revitalised with seating and shade-giving trees.
